Shamsur Rahman Shuvo, who made his ODI debut in the second match against New Zealand where he scored 25 runs and put on 63 for the first wicket withTamim Iqbal, said Bangladesh will look to finish the series positively but was also wary of the Kiwis striking back.
“At the moment, we are on a high after winning the series but we are not overconfident as we all know New Zealand is a good side and they will try come for us hard in the next match, so we have to play well and finish the series positively,” he said.
The 25- year old said the pitch in his debut game was difficult to bat on and determined his patient approach. “Initially the ball was not coming on to the bat and we had to adjust to the wicket. Then we realized if we can spend time in the middle, we can play our shots later,” said the opener, who took 54 balls to score his 25 runs.
Reflecting on the innings, Shamsur said he remained calm through the turgid early period but gained confidence after striking two sixes, “I was focused and remained calm when I was not getting the runs initially but those two sixes helped me to get settled at the wicket and I was feeling much better at the crease after that.”
Nonetheless, Shamsur accepted responsibility for his awkward dismissal to a full toss from off-spinner Nathan McCullum. “To be honest I don’t know what happened on that delivery. I think I totally misjudged the ball and I hope I don’t make these types of mistakes in future and that I play long innings,” he said.
