Bangladesh is positive to play a bilateral T20I series against Nepal next year amid a packed schedule, with the two sides set to meet in a bilateral series for the first time.

Bangladesh have so far played two T20Is against Nepal, both in the T20 World Cup. However, the two teams have never faced each other in a bilateral series.

Nepal’s ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari expressed interest in arranging a bilateral series with Bangladesh during a meeting with State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque last Thursday.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also responded positively to the proposal, with the series potentially taking place early next year.

“Talks are going on between the BCB and the Nepal Cricket Association. Our FTP is very packed. Even then, we are trying to find a convenient time within this cycle. If everything goes well, the series may take place,” BCB cricket operations manager Shahriar Nafees told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday.

He said both boards were keen to arrange the series within the current FTP cycle.

“We want to arrange the series within this cycle. The Nepal Cricket Association has also made the request. We are looking at the matter positively,” Nafees said.

Nepal was recently hit hard by devastating floods. The ambassador proposed the bilateral series with Bangladesh as a gesture of support and to inspire the people affected by the disaster.

The series could be held at the beginning of next year.

Bangladesh is currently preparing for the cricket event of the Asian Games after returning from their tour of Australia.

The team will travel to the United Arab Emirates after the Asian Games conclude at the end of this month to play a Test against Afghanistan and a tri-nation series involving Zimbabwe.

The Asian Games preparation camp will begin in Mirpur on Sunday.
