Bangladesh were struck by a major blow ahead of their ODI series against New Zealand starting today as ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has been ruled out from the first game due to viral fever. He has been suffering from fever since yesterday afternoon.
Though both the national and the Bangladesh Cricket Board physiotherapists thought of improvement, Shakib’s health condition worsened in the evening and he was taken to the hospital at 10pm.
“He was getting better and we even thought he will be available for the game tomorrow (today), but conditions deteriorated and he was sent to the hospital,” informed a reliable BCB source. It was further learnt that the left-arm all-rounder will have to spend the night at the hospital.
Two other crucial players - team captain Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque – are also suffering from a viral fever and there is a danger of others following too.
“They have got fever bit it is not extreme. They are recovering and I don’t think it will prevent them from playing in the game,” Dr. Debashish told the media yesterday.
Meanwhile, Mushfiq said, “We asked Mominul to rest yesterday (Sunday), he is not completely fit, but he is fit enough to play. I am not too well either, so hopefully I will be fit by tomorrow (today) for the game. There are a few other niggles, but hopefully everyone will be fit.”
