Gladiators take to legal arena

Update : 28 Oct 2013, 05:16 PM

Two-time Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Champions Dhaka Gladiators have sued both the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) over match-fixing allegations from the second edition of the tournament.

The franchise’s owner Salim Chowdhury confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune yesterday, saying that a case had been filed at the Chief Metropolitan Magistracy (CMM) Court yesterday.

Salim claimed that the BCB and ICC reports were unfair and legally questionable.

BCB director Jalal Younus said, “Everyone has the right to go legal as a citizen of the country but I don’t think there were any unfair or illegal points in the report. We will also see the matter in court if they (Dhaka Gladiators) are taking the issue there. The report and action was taken following the by-law of the ICC so there is minimal chance for anything wrong happening.”

The director however, did not confirm if the BCB had received the legal notice sent by Salim Chowdhury.

Nine individuals – both players and officials – from the Dhaka Gladiators were accused of being involved in fixing activity in this year’s BPL by the ICC.

After receiving the final report on the matter from the ICC, the BCB formed a three-member tribunal, headed by former chief justice Abdur Rashid, to look follow-up on the charges.
