ICC mediates BCCI and BCB dispute over Fizz dismissal

The ICC has held internal meetings and spoken to both boards, attempting to find an amicable solution

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is acting as a mediator in an escalating political and cricketing dispute between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) .

The conflict, which arose following the BCCI's instruction to Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman, has led to the BCB refusing to send its team to India for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup, citing security concerns.

The BCCI instructed the KKR to release Mustafizur from their IPL 2026 squad, reportedly due to rising geo-political tensions in the region. This decision, made without input from the IPL Governing Council, angered the BCB and the Bangladeshi government.

In response to the perceived "disgrace" and security concerns, the BCB decided its national team would not travel to India for the T20 World Cup matches and formally requested the ICC to relocate their games to a neutral venue, possibly Sri Lanka. The Bangladesh government also banned the broadcast of the IPL in the country.

The ICC has held internal meetings and spoken to both boards, attempting to find an amicable solution and convince Bangladesh to play in India. The ICC reportedly informed the BCB that they must travel to India or risk forfeiting their matches, though the BCB has denied receiving such an ultimatum, revealing its ongoing communication with the ICC.

The BCB has sought more time from the ICC to respond, pending consultation with the Bangladesh government. The matter is complicated by logistical challenges of changing the schedule a month before the tournament begins early next month.
