Update : 23 Jan 2025, 01:40 AM

Bangladesh women’s team revived their World Cup qualification hopes with a commanding 60-run victory over the West Indies in the second and penultimate One Day International in Basseterre.

After a heavy nine-wicket loss in the opening match, this win sets up a crucial decider Friday.

Invited to bat first, Bangladesh posted 184, anchored by skipper Nigar Sultana Joty’s steady 68 off 120 balls.

Sobhana Mostary (23) and Shorna Akter (21) provided support, though the Windies bowlers Karishma Ramharack (4/33) and Aaliyah Alleyne (3/24) kept them under pressure.

In response, Bangladesh’s bowlers delivered a stellar performance, skittling the hosts out for just 124 in 35 overs.

Spinners Nahida Akter (3/31), Rabeya Khan (2/19), and Fahima Khatun (2/17) shone for the tourists, with pacer Marufa Akter (2/35) chipping in with crucial breakthroughs.

The final ODI will now determine if Bangladesh can secure their place in the World Cup directly.
