Durbar Rajshahi returned to winning ways in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2024-25 season with a 65-run rout over Sylhet Strikers at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong Friday.

Rajshahi, who were flayed by Dhaka Capitals in the previous match, registered their third victory by virtue of this win, which propelled them to fourth spot in the points table.

Zimbabwean recruit Ryan Burl and left-arm spinner Sanjamul Islam were instrumental in the victory.

Burl hammered a 27-ball 41 as Rajshahi posted 184/7 and defended it with ease, thanks to Sanjamul, who picked up 3/25.

He was ably supported by Taskin Ahmed, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury and Aftab Alam who all took two wickets apiece.

Zakir Hasan and Jaker Ali Anik were the only two batters who could stand tall amid the failure of the others.

The diminutive Zakir struck 39 off 28, a knock laced with four fours and two sixes, while Jaker smote three sixes for his 20-ball 31.

After electing to bat first, Rajshahi, in their first match of the port city phase of the country’s premier T20 tournament, made a decent start with Mohammad Haris and Jishan Alam providing the initial impetus.

But no opener could continue it for long with Haris getting out for 19 and Jishan departing for 20.

Skipper Anamul Haque and Burl then shared 35 runs for the third wicket before Ruyel Miah got the breakthrough with the wicket of the captain, who made 32 off 22.

Burl continued to attack amid the fall of wickets around him and gave Rajshahi hope of getting past 200.

Nihaduzzaman, who notched 2/37, removed Burl to block their way to 200.

Burl, who was the fifth batter out, hit one four and four sixes in his knock.

Ruyel, who eventually finished with 3/32, cleaned up the tail.

Nahidul Islam picked up 2/20 to complement Ruyel and Nihaduzzman.

After this defeat, Sylhet plunged to second from bottom with just two wins in seven matches.
