Bangladesh women’s cricket team skipper Nigar Sultana Joty was included by International Cricket Council in the best XI of the recently concluded Twenty20 World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates.
With their maiden title in the ninth edition, New Zealand became the fourth winner of the mega event after Australia (six titles), England and the West Indies (one each).
They beat South Africa in the final and both the finalists have three players apiece in the best XI (and 12th player), alongside two from the Windies, and one each from Bangladesh, India, England and Australia.
South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt captains the side with Joty finding room as a wicketkeeper-batter.
The ICC said: “Nigar Sultana Joty takes the gloves following an impressive competition. She led her side to their first Women's T20 World Cup victory for 10 years against Scotland and impressed with the bat against both the West Indies (39) and South Africa (32 not out).
“The Bangladesh wicket-keeper had a standout performance for the Tigresses, excelling both behind the stumps and with the bat. She scored 104 runs in four innings at an average of 34.66, with a top score of 39 against the West Indies.
“Yet her best contributions came with the gloves, where she made six stumpings and took one catch. Her total of seven dismissals was the highest among wicketkeepers in the tournament.”
