Former England captain Michael Vaughan’s teenage son Archie trumped the efforts of Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan as Somerset thumped Surrey by 111 runs in their County Championship match in Taunton Thursday.
Shakib picked up a nine-wicket haul for county leaders Surrey but Archie fared even better, bagging 11 wickets to take Somerset, who have never won the championship, just eight points behind the former with only two matches left to play.
In pursuit of 221 on the fourth and final day, Surrey, aiming for a hat-trick of titles, were dismissed for 109 with Shakib (nought) falling to Archie.
Shakib had made 12 in the first innings out of Surrey’s 321.
Somerset posted 317 and 224 with Shakib taking four and five wickets respectively.
