Bangladesh were yet again in a bit of pressure after losing two wickets in 3.1 overs in Thursday’s Twenty20 World Cup Group D match against the Netherlands at Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown, Saint Vincent.
It was the same old problem for the Tigers from the last one year as once again they failed to produce consistent performance in the powerplays in T20 cricket.
After losing captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto (one) and Liton Das (one) inside the first four overs, it looked like Bangladesh might finish the powerplay (first six overs) with 35-40 odd runs.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim was batting well at the other end but losing a couple of wickets and the out of form Shakib al Hasan coming in at No 4 was a challenging phase for Bangladesh in the powerplay.
But Tanzid continued his attacking approach despite the fall of two early wickets and Shakib also played his part brilliantly to help Bangladesh finish the powerplay on 54 for two.
Eventually that was a good powerplay for Bangladesh despite losing their top-order early.
Shakib hammered 19 runs in the sixth over of the powerplay, including four boundaries, which gave the momentum to Bangladesh and they registered 159 in the end.
The Dutch conceded only five runs in the first two overs and bagged a wicket.
And from that stage, Bangladesh took 49 runs in the remaining four overs of the powerplay which provided them the edge towards a good total of 159 on a tricky wicket.
