Nazmul ready for fight

Update : 22 Aug 2013, 07:38 PM

The president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board ad-hoc committee, Nazmul Hasan officially declared that he would run for board elections, which will likely take place next month, after a meeting with District and Divisional Sports Organisers at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Nazmul follows former BCB boss Saber Hossain Chowdhury in declaring such a stance.

“I will of course fight in the election for the Presidents post. Many are now stepping back, after the irresponsible and baseless comments the forum made few days ago. I thought about not openly fighting them but then again, I though that wouldn’t be right as they should not get an empty field to score and there is hardly anyone courageous enough to go against them, to be honest. So I have now stood against them, I will fight to the end,”Nazmul told the media yesterday.

The BCB chief dismissed the claims of forum president Yousuf Jamil Babu that the election was being manipulated and mechanized as baseless and irrelevant. “We have yet to ask for the names of the councilors and the letter is yet to be dispatched. The BCB has not referred any name nor has it tried to influence any district. It is the District Associations who will decide the councilors.

“It doesn’t matter who wins or loses the election. The thing which matters is that the election will take place. One should think that they have all the clubs and the districts in their hand just because they have formed an oraganisation (Forum). They were wrong. Now we will see who is more powerful,” he added.

Son of deceased Bangladesh president Mohammed Jillur Rahman, Nazmul took charge of the BCB Presidents post last October, after than president AHM Mostafa Kamal became vice-president of the International Cricket Council.

Nazmul will have at least one opponent in the race – Saber Hossain Chowdhury, who declared his candidacy last week.

“Cricket in Bangladesh is going through a critical situation at the moment. Our cricket will be in danger in the future if we can’t get away from the situation. This is why I have decided to run for the presidency,” said Saber at that time.
