Last season’s Bangladesh Premier League finalist Sylhet Strikers kept alive their slim playoff hopes with a five-wicket win over bottom side Durdanto Dhaka in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Wednesday.
The Strikers are second from bottom with four points from eight matches while Dhaka are two points behind having played seven games.
Benny Howell put in an all-round display to keep Sylhet’s faltering hopes alive, while his teammates registered useful performances to complement his efforts.
Asked to bat first, the home side posted a moderate 124 for the loss of eight wickets in the face of some disciplined Sylhet bowling.
Saif Hasan top-scored for the capital city outfit with 41 while Mohammad Naim chipped in with 36.
Rejaur Rahman Raja finished with 3/20, Samit Patel took 2/19 and Howell picked up one wicket conceding only 17 runs in his quota of four overs.
In reply, the Strikers lost their top-order early but Nazmul Hossain Shanto held on, making 33, while Howell and Ryan Burl were unbeaten on 30 and 29 respectively as they reached the destination with an over to spare.
Shoriful Islam ended up with 3/27 while Usman Qadir recorded figure of 2/16.
