Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has taken responsibility for the Tigers' disastrous World Cup campaign, and admitted that they have disappointed the fans as well as themselves.

Bangladesh have lost six games out of seven in the ongoing World Cup, and all six were by comprehensive margins, including the shocking 87-run humbling against the Netherlands at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

"I take responsibility as well as anyone in the group because we have disappointed the fans and we disappointed ourselves as well. We didn't play our best cricket but the thing is nothing has changed from the first game to now. Only [what] has changed is what's going through between our ears. Our skills haven't gone anywhere. So, I think we put ourselves down by having high expectations,” said Hathurusingha during the pre-match press conference in New Delhi Sunday.

“We haven't played our best cricket, or what we were capable of, or we played before coming into the World Cup. So, in that sense, it's we all need to look at mirrors and see what went wrong and me staying the coach.”

Bangladesh have two remaining clashes in the campaign, against Sri Lanka Monday and against Australia Saturday.

These two matches are important for Bangladesh to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy as the top eight teams in the points table, including hosts Pakistan, after the end of the group stage of the World Cup will advance to the mega event.
