Nayeem six-for clinches victory for East Zone

Update : 30 Dec 2021, 07:57 PM

Nayeem Hasan emerged as the hero for Islami Bank East Zone as his six-for brought a sensational win for the side in their Bangladesh Cricket League clash against Walton Central Zone Wednesday.

During the final day of the four-day match, Walton capitulated for 188 chasing 198 thanks to 6/48 of Nayeem at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Central Zone started the day at a vantage position of 87/1 and their overnight batters - Mohammad Mithun and Soumya Sarker - seemed to cruise to the target.

Both the players picked up their fifties and appeared on verge of an easy victory as they reached 145/1 before Soumya was trapped in front by a Nayeem delivery for 73.

Mithun got out in Nayeem’s next over, 43rd in the innings, in same fashion for 60 and all of a sudden the score became 146/3.

Taibur Rahman departed next and briefly it looked the batting side might have stopped the debacle as Salman Hossain and Shuvagata Hom took the score to 167 by adding 17 for the fifth wicket.

But the biggest collapse occurred after that as Central Zone lost their next four wickets adding only two runs.

East Zone bowlers were able to pick up the last two wickets in the same score to bag an unlikely victory.

Nayeem was adjudged player of the match.

The other match of the round ended in a dull draw as not even three innings were completed at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

BCB South Zone took a 114-run lead as they finished their first innings on 499 thanks to 217 runs from Towhid Hridoy.

Player of the match Towhid, who started the day on 159, successfully converted his ton into a double before getting dismissed as the sixth batsman.

BCB North Zone reached 62/1 in their second innings before the match was called off.
