The group stage of the T20 World Cup has ended and Pakistan will face Australia in the semi-final while England will lock horns with New Zealand in the other to reach the grand finale. Here are the top five bowling performances from the Super 12 stage in this T20 World Cup.
Shaheen Afridi 3/31 against India
Pakistan left-arm pacer Shaheen lit up the tournament straightaway with a superb display of fast bowling against the strong Indian batting line-up. Shaheen picked up the wickets of India openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul with in-swinging deliveries and India were on the backfoot in the very beginning of the crucial encounter. Rohit was trapped lbw and Rahul was cleaned up as Shaheen produced two brilliant deliveries to get those precious wickets. India could not manage to recover from that early blitz by Shaheen and in the end scored a below par total of 151, which Pakistan eventually chases down with all 10 wickets in hand. Shaheen also took the wicket of Virat Kohli in the death overs to finish the match with 4-0-31-3, and the player of the match award.
Wanindu Hasaranga 4/20 against South Africa with a hat-trick
The Sri Lanka leg-spinner became the third bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup as he finished the match against South Africa with bowling figure of 4-0-20-4. Hasaranga bagged the wickets of Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma and Dwaine Pretorius to keep Sri Lanka in the game while defending 142 runs at Sharjah. However, Hasaranga’s brilliant spell was not enough in the end as David Miller scored 23 off 13 and Kagiso Rabada 13 off seven to help the Proteas clinch a nervy win with one delivery to spare. But Hasaranga was the star performer for the Lankans in that match and the leggie in fact finished the T20 World Cup with an impressive 16 wickets from eight innings.
Ruben Trumpelmann 3/17 against Scotland
Namibia pacer Trumpelmann bowled a stunning opening over in their group stage match against Scotland at Sheikh Abu Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The left-arm fast bowler notched three wickets in the very fast over of the game with wickets in the first, third and fourth ball of the over. He took the wickets of George Munsey, Matthew Cross and Richie Berrington in that brilliant over. Trumpelmann finished the game with three for 17 in his quota of four overs and was later adjudged player of the match.
Adam Zampa 5/19 against Bangladesh
Zampa destroyed the Bangladesh middle-order in their Super 12 match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium as the leg-spinner bagged five wickets conceding just 19 runs in his four overs. Zampa picked up the wickets of Afif Hossain, Shamim Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Shariful Islam as the Tigers lower middle order had no clue against his leg break and googlies. Bangladesh were bundled out for a paltry 73 and Australia cruised to their target within seven overs. Zampa was the player of the match for his spin mastery and Bangladesh ended their miserable tournament on a crushing low.
Kagiso Rabada 3/48 against England
South Africa fast bowler Rabada was hammered against England initially as he was struck for three consecutive sixes at one point of the innings when England were chasing 190. But Rabada came back strongly in the final over of the match when 14 runs were required off six balls. Rabada took the wickets of Chris Woakes, Eoin Morgan and Chris Jordan to seal the match for the Proteas for a consolation 10-run victory. From conceding three sixes in a row to bagging three wickets in a row in the last over defending 14, it was a nice comeback by Rabada, who thus became the fourth bowler to take a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup.
