Abu Dhabi cricket Stadium’s chief pitch curator Mohan Singh was found dead ahead of the ongoing T20 World Cup’s crucial match between Afghanistan and New Zealand on Sunday, reports various media.
It was learnt Mohan prepared the pitch for the super 12 match that New Zealand won to seal their semifinal berth and eliminated India from the tournament.
Afghanistan, whose win would favour India, could score only 124 on the pitch that supported New Zealand pacers and later on their spinners failed to defend the lowly total.
The cause of the death of Mohan, who hails from Mohali of India, remains unknown till the report is filed in. He used to work under Daljir Singh, former chief curator of Indian Cricket board before moving to UAE in the early 2000s.
The international Cricket Council has sent condolences to the family of Mohan Singh.
“ We are deeply saddened and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, Abu Dhabi Cricket and everyone connected with the event,” and ICC spokesperson said according to Indian outlet India Today.
