Ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan’s availability for the T20I home series against Pakistan later this month is uncertain. While pace bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin is near confirm of missing the three-match series, wicket-keeper batsman Nurul Hasan is expected to recover fully and available for the series scheduled to start on November 19.
Shakib is carrying a Grade 1 hamstring tear and Saifuddin is recovering from a back injury.
The Bangladesh national cricket team took flight to Dhaka from Dubai on Friday following a dreadful campaign in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. Bangladesh Cricket Board chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury informed the media of the injury status of the players before boarding the flight at the Dubai International Airport.
“Shakib will take at least three weeks to recover and get back to the field. He will be able to play the Test series. Saifuddin will have to stay away from the field for six weeks. There is no doubt with availability of Nurul Hasan,” said Debashish to the media in Dubai on Friday.
Saifuddin was ruled from the T20 World Cup following Bangladesh’s first Super 12 game, against Sri Lanka. Shakib picked his injury during the third game in the phase, against West Indies and missed out from the last two matches – against South Africa and Australia.
Nurul picked the injury while in nets ahead of the second game – against England. The right-handed batsman despite the pain took to the field against the English side but missed the remainder of the tournament for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play the three T20Is against Pakistan at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on November 19, 20 and 22 respectively. The first of the two-match Test series will begin at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on November 26. The second Test will be played at Mirpur from December 4.
