Sri Lanka women beat Bangladesh by 58 runs in rain-curtailed ODI

The 2 sides will now turn their attention to the 3-match T20I series

Update : 04 May 2023, 09:15 PM

Rain played spoilsport throughout the three-match one-day international series between hosts Sri Lanka women and their Bangladesh counterparts but at least there was some competitive action Thursday as the Lankans won by 58 runs in Colombo.

The first and second ODI were both washed out with not a single ball bowled in the penultimate game which saw Sri Lanka Cricket reschedule the series with the third match essentially turning into a decider.

After rain once again interrupted proceedings, the rescheduled ODI turned into a 30-over game as the Lankans posted 186 for the loss of five wickets following their decision to bat first.

Captain Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with a 60-ball 64, featuring half a dozen fours and four sixes, while Harshitha Samarawickrama made 45.

The five Bangladesh bowlers all picked up a wicket each but went for six runs per over or more with the exception of off-spinner Sultana Khatun (1/22).

In reply, the Tigresses lose wickets at regular intervals and were eventually all out for 128 in 29.5 overs with skipper Nigar Sultana Joty scoring the highest 37, followed by Fargana Hoque Pinky (24).

Player of the match Oshadi Ranasinghe bagged five wickets conceding 34 runs.

The two sides will now turn their attention to the three-match Twenty20 international series, which will be preceded by a practice game this Sunday between the visitors and Sri Lanka President's XI.
