A rearguard display of second innings batting, led by debutant centurion Lorcan Tucker, saw Ireland fight back in the lone Test match against Bangladesh in Mirpur and take a 131-run lead at stumps on day three.

Wicketkeeper-batter Tucker became only the second Irishman to hit a Test century after Kevin O'Brien as the tourists reached 286/8 at stumps having resumed day three on a precarious 27/4.

Tucker made 108 off 162 deliveries, featuring 14 fours and a six, and was ably supported by Andy McBrine, who was not out on a 144-ball 71, including eight boundaries and a maximum, as the Irish enjoyed their most productive day of the solitary Test, adding 259 to the overnight tally for the loss of four wickets.

Tucker was brilliantly assisted by Harry Tector (56) and McBrine in partnerships of 72 and 111 to put the pressure back on Bangladesh.

Tector's fifty made him the first Irish cricketer to hit half-centuries in both innings of a Test.

Taijul Islam, who claimed 5/58 in the first innings, was again the most successful Bangladesh bowler with 4/86.

Ireland were all out for 214 in their first innings before Bangladesh took a 155-run lead after scoring 369, riding on Mushfiqur Rahim's 10th Test ton.

Ireland have lost all three of their previous Tests since becoming a full member of the International Cricket Council in 2017.
