Bangladesh eager to whitewash England

The team, formed mostly with young names, showed character under Shakib's captaincy and Hathurusingha's guidance

Update : 14 Mar 2023, 12:57 AM

Hosts Bangladesh will be desperate to pull off a clinical performance to ensure their maiden series whitewash against England in the third and final Twenty20 international at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Tuesday.

Bangladesh have already bagged their maiden T20I series victory against world champions England after winning the first two matches convincingly.

The first game, played in Chittagong's Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, saw Bangladesh win by six wickets while in the second match in Mirpur last Sunday the home side finished with a four-wicket victory to register history.

Bangladesh struggle the most in the shortest format of the game but this time around the team, formed mostly with young names, showed character under the leadership of ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan and guidance of newly appointed head coach Chandika Hathurusingha.

According to Shakib this is all part of the build up to the 2024 T20 World Cup.

While the victory in the first game was a dominating one, Bangladesh struggled with the willow in the second game played on a typical Mirpur wicket.

On both the occasions, the hosts were indebted to in-form top order batter Nazmul Hossain Shanto for stepping up to the cause and taking Bangladesh to the shore.

Bangladesh would hope Shanto holds onto the momentum while Shakib and Afif Hossain will be expected to play the finishers' role again.

Eyes would be on Liton Das over whether he gets a big score after posting several starts in the last couple of series.

Bangladesh's bowling was exceptional in the previous game with help from the wicket.

Mehedi Hasan Miraz had emerged as the hero as Bangladesh restricted England to a below-par score.

Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud in pace defragment would be expected to keep persisting in their roles which they have done with aplomb so far.

On the other hand, England's difficulty with team selection remains as they have only 12 players to choose from for the vital match.

The touring side are the reigning 50-over and 20-over world champions and all efforts will be made to save their reputation at stake amid the limitations.

England with a strong bowling attack can turn the tables around but performing as a unit will be the key.

Adil Rashid will have to play the key role with Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes to provide the firepower at the other end.

Moeen Ali has a decent recent record at SBNCS, so he might come in handy with both bat and ball.

The match is scheduled to start at 3pm and despite it being in the middle of a week on a working day, the stands at SBNCS are expected to fill up as soon the game begins.

The game will be aired live on Gazi TV and T Sports.
