Shakib al Hasan led from the front as Fortune Barishal romped to a 12-run victory over Comilla Victorians for their third win in the Bangladesh Premier League at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong Saturday.

Shakib blasted an unbeaten 45-ball 81 with eight fours and four sixes, his second fifty-plus knock in the tournament, and also took one wicket to single-handedly drive the side to victory.

Thanks to his knock, Barishal racked up 177/6 after being asked to bat first, and then bowled in disciplined way to restrict Comilla to 165/7, reports BSS.

The defeat kept Comilla winless so far after playing three matches.

Shakib's knock was vital in keeping Barishal on track when other batters failed to capitalize on their good start.

Opener Anamul Haque again failed to convert his start, getting dismissed for a run-a-ball 20 while Chaturanga de Silva made 21.

Ibrahim Zadran was the other notable scorer with 27.

He added 50 with Shakib for the fourth wicket when Barishal appeared to be in trouble, on 72/3 in nine overs.

The partnership was key in guiding Barishal to a good total.

Tanvir Islam was the most successful bowler for Comilla with 4/33 while Nayeem Hasan and Khushdil Shah picked up one wicket apiece.

Comilla's openers Liton Das and Pakistan recruit Mohammad Rizwan gave the side a good start but both the batters got dismissed in disappointing fashion, giving Barishal the crucial edge.

Liton was run out for 32 off 26 while Rizwan edged a delivery to wicket-keeper Anamul after adding 18.

Thereafter they lost wickets at regular intervals but Khushdil still played some courageous shots to keep the side in the hunt.

However, the bowlers held their nerve and denied Khushdil to help Barishal to victory.

Khushdil was not out on 43 off 27 with one four and four sixes.

Afif joins the party as Challengers outclass Dominators

Afif Hossain led from the front as Chattogram Challengers picked up their second victory after defeating Dhaka Dominators by eight wickets in the second match of the day.

Afif remained unbeaten on a 52-ball 69 with seven fours and a six while Afghan recruit Darwish Rasooli was not out on 56 off 33; the unbroken third wicket association adding 103 to take the home side to the shore in 17.4 overs.

Dhaka earlier posted 158 for the loss of six wickets with Afghan opener Usman Ghani scoring the highest 47 off 33.

Nihaduzzaman and Mehedi Hasan Rana bagged two wickets each for Chattogram.
