Bangladesh to raise India match concerns in proper forum

BCB director Jalal Younus said they will take up their concerns with the ICC

Bangladesh team in the ongoing Twenty20 World Cup in Australia are suffering the after effects of the hangover of their high-voltage encounter against India at Adelaide Oval.

The men in red and green lost a nail-biting rain-interrupted game by five runs (Duckworth/Lewis method) to India but this was preceded by controversies.

The Bangladesh dugout had been unhappy with several decisions from the match officials, including that of the fake throw by Virat Kohli, and their urgency in resuming the game without giving enough time for the field to dry after heavy showers.

Bangladesh Cricket Board director and chairman of the cricket operations committee, Jalal Younus informed that the team members were still in discussions, but unsatisfied with some decisions that had gone against them.

Jalal also said the BCB will raise concerns in the proper forum, which is the International Cricket Council.

“There was an issue with the fake throw. The umpires were informed of the matter but they said in reply that they did notice the incident, for which they did not call for a review. Shakib [al Hasan] had a long discussion with umpire [Marais] Erasmus which continued even after the game,” Jalal told the media at the team hotel in Adelaide Thursday.

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan following the game claimed that the on-field umpires did not notice the incident of fake fielding from Kohli and deprived Bangladesh five potentially crucial penalty runs.

The incident took place in the seventh over of Bangladesh's chase with Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto in the middle.

Liton played the ball towards Ashdeep Singh at the deep off-side field off Axar Patel.

Arshdeep sent in the throw but Kohli who stood at point contrived a shy at the non-striker's end as the ball was going past him.

Jalal further added that the Bangladesh dugout requested the match officials to take proper time to dry the field before resuming the game after rain interruption.

Bangladesh, chasing 185 runs, rode on Liton, who breathed fire with the willow and added 66 runs in seven overs without loss alongside Shanto.

It is understood that when the rain lightened after around an hour, members of the Bangladesh team had requested the match officials to take enough time to dry the field as they looked to be in a hurry to recommence the game.

“There was discussion with the umpires regarding the wet field too. Shakib was asking them to give enough time for the field to dry. But the decision of the match officials was ultimate and there was no point of argument,” said Jalal.

“It is not easy for the board to speak on the matters whenever you want [with the ICC]. This is not a school that you can walk to the headmaster and complain. But still we have the incidents in mind and we will raise the matters in a proper forum,” the BCB director added.

Bangladesh team had a day-off Thursday.

Members of the team attended an ICC event near the hotel in the morning and were found visiting places in Adelaide, which is South Australia's cosmopolitan coastal capital.

Bangladesh for the next two days, Friday and Saturday, will train before meeting Pakistan in their last group game at Adelaide Oval this Sunday.
