Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Mithun is undoubtedly one of the most trolled cricketers on the social media platforms.
The right-handed batsman, who is looking for his way back to the Bangladesh national fold, however, doesn’t allow himself to get carried away by the social media negativity.
Set to lead the Bangladesh A team in both four-day and one-day series in the West Indies, Mithun said one will not be able to play cricket in Bangladesh if he or she cannot tolerate the criticism and social media trolling.
“There is always a hype with Bangladesh cricket, people love to watch the game and also talk about it. I will not be able to play cricket if I get worried of those. You need to have a strong mentality and I have got a lot of time to work on that to be honest. I took time to make a comeback and play the game,” said Mithun to the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Thursday.
Mithun last played for Bangladesh national team in July 2021, during the tour of Zimbabwe.
He was axed from the national team based on below par performance.
He spoke well with the bat in domestic competitions since and has thus earned the charge as the captain of Bangladesh A team in the tour of the West Indies.
Mithun finished as the highest run scorer in the National Cricket League last season scoring 468 runs, including a double century.
In the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, Mithun scored 327 runs in 11 matches with an average of 36.33 and involving one century.
Now that the opportunity to play for Bangladesh A team has arisen, a good performance here might make Mithun earn his seat back into the national dressing room.
“I have been given a responsibility [to lead A team in the West Indies]. My whole focus is on how to produce the best result possible. I do not think of what else is happening,” said Mithun.
Bangladesh in the first phase of the tour will play two four-day matches against Windies A team.
The first game is scheduled to start on August 4 and the second on August 10.
This will be followed by three one-day matches on August 16, 18 and 20 respectively.
All the matches will be played at Darren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia.
