Tamim’s 90 hands first defeat to Jamal

Despite the defeat Jamal kept four-point lead

Bangladesh national team ODI captain Tamim Iqbal scored 90 for Prime Bank Cricket Club to inflict first defeat of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the Super League stage of the Dhaka Premier League on Sunday. 

Despite the defeat Jamal kept four-point lead on top of the table as second place holder Rupganj Cricket Club, who have now 18 points with two match to go, lost to Abahani Limited in another match.

In another match of the day, Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club beat Gazi Group Cricketers. 

Prime v Jamal 

After losing the toss at BKSP 4, league leaders Jamal got off to a poor start as they lost their opener Robiul Islam Robi for a duck and soon reduced to 30-3 before losing half the side for just 86.

Nurul Hasan Sohan, who scored a match winning century in their last outings, scored 71 while Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who contributed both with bat and ball in the last match since his return from South Africa, added 47 that helped them end with 232-8.

Taijul Islam grabbed three wickets for Prime conceding 42.

Chasing the moderate total Prime openers Anamul Haque and Tamim made it easy as they formed a partnership of 121 off 21.4 overs. 

In form Anamaul, the highest scorer of the tournament, scored yet another half century as he made 52 off 66 while Tamim scored 90 off just 85 balls before getting out in the 30th over when the score was 174. 

Tamim hit 10 boundaries and four sixes in his player of the match innings. 

Shahadat Hossain and Mohammad Mithun remained not out on 52 and 31 and ensured a comprehensive eight-wicket victory. 

Abahani v Rupganj 

Abahani lost both their openers within 30 runs on the board at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium after winning the toss but Najmul Hossain Shanto and Afif Hossain added 126 runs in the third wicket to put them on a strong position.

Shanto scored 86 off 101 balls with the aid of 10 fours while Afif made 62 off 72 with seven boundaries and a six. 

With a good base later batters scored with brisk pace that saw Abahani post 279-7.

In reply Rupganj openers formed 47-run stand but lost wickets in regular intervals before capitulating for 198 in 41.5 overs and lose the match by 81 runs. 

Mosaddek, who returned with a figure of 4-40, was adjudged player of the match. 

Rupganj v Gazi 

Rupganj posted 314-4 thanks to 104 of Fazle Mahmud and 73 and 53 respectively from Imran Uzzaman and Marshall Ayub. 

Player of the match Fazle, who was retired hurt, struck five fours and four sixes in his 108-ball innings. 

In reply Gazi failed to keep the chase on and bundled out for 230 in 43.4 overs to be beaten by 84 runs.
