Update : 10 Feb 2022, 08:58 PM

The group stage of the ongoing edition of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2022 is almost at the end and a few local players have performed well so far and caught attention.

Here are four emerging players who have performed impressively in this year’s BPL:

Mrittunjoy Chowdhury

Mrittunjoy can be easily considered one of the best bowlers of the tournament. After initially missing the early phase, the young left-arm pacer then played five games for Chattogram Challengers and made a huge impact in the bowling attack. Mrittunjoy claimed a hat-trick against Sylhet Sunrisers in Chittagong, which is the first in this year’s tournament, and also bowled a superb last over against Minister Group Dhaka while defending 11, giving his team a vital win that kept alive their playoff hopes.

Stat: Mrittunjoy took 10 wickets in five innings with an economy of 8.34 and best bowling figure of 4/12.

Munim Shahriyar

The top-order batsman played only three games for Fortune Barishal but already caught attention with his brilliant hitting. Initially he was not picked by any team in the players' draft. But Barishal included him in the squad in the last moment before the tournament and it seems it was a great bargain for Shakib al Hasan and Khaled Mahmud. Munim scored 51 and 45 in his last two innings and both knocks were full of entertainment with plenty of boundaries all around the park.

Stat: Munim scored 97 runs in three innings opening the batting with Chris Gayle and struck 10 fours and six sixes with a strike rate of 176.36.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy

Joy recently made his Test debut as an opener and the young right-hander continued his purple patch of late with some useful innings for his side Comilla Victorians. Top-order batter Joy, an U-19 World Cup champion for Bangladesh, scored a match-winning 65-run knock in his last game while chasing a challenging target and looks promising for the remainder of the season. The youngster struck 22 fours and three sixes in five innings, which is impressive as well.

Stat: Joy made 165 runs in five innings with an average of 33 and strike rate of 132.

Tanvir Islam

Lef- arm spinner Tanvir Islam has picked up 11 wickets from seven games for the Victorians, and become a crucial part of Comilla’s bowling attack despite other spin options like Sunil Narine or Moeen Ali. Tanvir bowled 26 overs in total and the most impressive part of his bowling is the economy rate as the slow left-armer conceded 178 runs with an economy of just 6.84, which is quite good for T20 games.

Stat: Tanvir took 11 wickets from seven innings with an economy of 6.84 and best bowling figure of 2/19.
