Walton Central Zone emerged as the Bangladesh Cricket League champions after beating BCB South Zone by four wickets on the last day of the competitive final in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Thursday.
This is the third title for Central Zone with their last championship coming in the 2015-16 season.
Central Zone needed 218 to win the grand finale and on day four they finished with 26 runs for the loss of three wickets.
Scoring 192 more runs on day five pitch in Mirpur was not an easy task but Central Zone middle-order batsmen batted well and held their nerve.
Skipper Shuvagata Hom, who scored 116 in the first innings, again batted brilliantly under pressure and struck another century as the right-hander was unbeaten on 114.
Shuvagata’s match-winning knock came off 121 deliveries with 13 fours and two sixes.
Central Zone were struggling at one point on 68 for six but Shuvagata and wicketkeeper-batsman Jakir Ali formed a 153-run partnership for the seventh wicket to snatch a memorable win.
Jaker gave brilliant support to his captain with a determined innings of 41 which came off 124 deliveries laced with five boundaries.
Shuvagata was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant unbeaten century while chasing.
And he also scored 116 in the first innings when his team were in trouble.
In the first innings Shuvagata added 283 with Mohammad Mithun when his team lost early wickets.
Mithun scored 206 in the first innings and was adjudged player of the series for his good run of form.
BCL FINAL, DAY 5
BCB South Zone 387 & 268 lost to Walton Central Zone 438 & 221/6 in 63.5 overs (Shuvagata 114*, Jaker 41*) by four wickets
