All of them are asymptomatic and being kept at the hospital for observation, hospital sources say

Three members of the Bangladesh women’s national cricket team were admitted to the Mugda Medical College Hospital in Dhaka with Covid-19 on Monday afternoon.
Two of them were infected with the Omicron variant, while the other had contracted the Delta variant, said acting director of the hospital Dr Md Niyatuzzaman.
“There is nothing to be worried about. They are absolutely fine. They were taken to the hospital to keep them under observation, as two of them had contracted the new variant,” he added.
All the patients were asymptomatic, Dr Md Niyatuzzaman further said.
On Saturday, Health authorities in the country confirmed the presence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. Two players of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team, who had tested positive for Covid-19 while under institutional quarantine upon their return from Zimbabwe, were the first two confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in Bangladesh.
According to the DGHS, the team returned from Zimbabwe on December 1, and they had been kept in institutional quarantine at a hotel in Dhaka since then. The cricketers underwent Covid-19 tests on December 6, and samples from the two Covid-19 positive cricketers were sent to laboratories for genome sequencing to determine if they contained the Omicron variant.
South Africa alerted the world to Omicron late last month, prompting alarm that the highly mutated variant could trigger a new surge in global infections.
On November 26, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Omicron as a variant of concern, the fifth SARS-CoV-2 strain to carry such a designation.
WHO also confirmed that although South Africa first detected the variant, severe cases remain low in the country.
The detection of the new variant led countries across the world to impose travel curbs. Bangladesh recently made two-week institutional quarantine mandatory for those travelling from seven African countries.
