Batter Afif Hossain believes he can serve the Bangladesh national team at number three in T20 cricket only if he can perform regularly in this position in domestic circuit.

Bangladesh national cricket team has been looking for a solution for number three spot for a long time and now Afif expressed his desire that he can be a long-term solution.

Bangladesh national team management is experimenting with this batting position and Shakib al Hasan and Liton Das have been batted in this position in recent times.

Afif's has been serving the Bangladesh T20 setup at number 4 or 5 position during his career so far, and his batting style would suit the position.

Left-handed batter Afif is featuring for Chattogram Challengers in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League and has played twice at number three scoring 5 against Khulna Tigers and 69 Dhaka Dominators.

After scoring 69 off 52, which helped Chattogram Challengers decimate Dhaka Dominators by eight wickets, Afif seemed to be on track to show the mettle in him.

“I have to do better to fulfill my wish. So, I have to perform regularly, only then I can claim,” said Afif to the media at Chattogram's Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

In the last T20 World Cup, Afif batted in number 5 position mostly, a position which demands quick runs from the batter. Even though this position is not his favourite, Afif didn't give up.

He made 38 runs from 27 balls against Netherlands, 29 from 19 balls against Zimbabwe, unbeaten 24 from 20 balls against Pakistan.

But Afif feels that there is more to be gained.

“Wherever I play, I try to perform and I didn't have any headache about my batting position. But obviously there is a favorite position. I like to bat at No.3 position,” said Afif.

“I always feel comfortable when I have more time. There is an opportunity to cover it later. It becomes a bit difficult for me when I need to play shots from the first balls,” he added.

Afif in the ongoing BPL T20 has scored 127 runs in four innings with best figure of 69 not out against Dhaka Dominators in Chattogram on Saturday.
