Apart from Bangladesh, Ireland have also sealed their qualification

Update : 24 Sep 2022, 12:27 AM

Bangladesh women’s national cricket team qualified for the next T20 World Cup as they defeated Thailand in the semifinal of the ICC Women’s T20 qualifier by 11 runs at Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Batting first, Bangladesh posted 113 runs losing five wickets in a tricky wicket. Runs were coming slowly in the initial stage of the innings but Bangladesh batters managed to score past the 100-run mark with some quick runs in the end.

Rumana Ahmed was the top scorer with 28 while Murshida Khatun scored 26.

In reply, Thailand pulled off almost a remarkable run-chase but just remained short of 11 runs in the end.

Natthakan Chantham made a heroic effort in the late stage of their innings as she scored 64 off 51 deliveries with four fours and three sixes.

But her valiant effort was not enough as Bangladesh players held their nerves to qualify for the play-offs final and seal a spot in the next T20 World Cup which will be played in South Africa in February and March 2023.

Eight teams battled for the two remaining places for the next World Cup and the two finalists in the qualifier have qualified for the big event.

Apart from Bangladesh, Ireland have also sealed their qualification as they defeated Zimbabwe by just 4 runs in the first semifinal.

Brief Score:

Bangladesh Women 113/5 in 20 overs

Rumana Ahmed 28, Murshida Khatun, 26, Ritu Moni 17*

Thailand Women 102/6 in 20 overs

Natthakan Chantham 64; Salma Khatun 3/18, Sanjida Akter Meghla 2/7
