It has been a long wait for pace bowler Nazmul Hossain, who injured his knee during a practice session in Sri Lanka, almost three months back. After many a lengthy talk, Bangladesh Cricket Board finally approved Nazmul to undergo medical treatment in Australia, and the bowler will fly down under with his wife on June 3.
Nazmul will be treated by Australian surgeon David Young, who has previously had Mashrafe Mortaza and Tamim Iqbal as patients.
The Hobiganj lad will go under the knife on June 6 and is hopeful of returning to the field within six months. BCB chief physician confirmed the plan, saying, “As he is to go under a major surgery, we are expecting that Nazmul will be fit to back in competitive cricket after six months”.
Nazmul Hossain has played 38 one day internationals and two Test matches, in which he has taken 44 and five wickets respectively. Since his ODI debut against South Africa in Birmingham on 2004, Nazmul has been in and out of the national side, but the pace bowler from Habiganj has made his mark whenever he has been given a chance.
Nazmul seems confident that he will be able to make a successful comeback after surgery.” I am happy that finally board took the initiative about my treatment and I hope that I will be back in the field as soon as I recover after my surgery”, he said.
