Former Bangladesh bowling coach and Bangladesh Premier League champions Dhaka Gladiators head coach Ian Pont denied his involvement in a match-fixing scandal during the second edition of the BPL. The ICC Anti-Corruption Security Unit’s (ACSU) investigation on the doubtful matches from BPL-2 revealed many names which included the former English cricketer’s name alongside Mohammad Ashraful, who is alleged to of losing matches for money. Relatives of the former national skipper Ashraful were quoted as saying that he had confessed his involvement in match fixing when ACSU approached him and told him that his team coach, Ian Pont, had detailed his own role in the scandal. Upon learning the issue, the English coach denied any such involvement in a statement to a London based Daily Telegraph. “I categorically deny these allegations and look forward to fully co-operate with the ACSU and its inquiry. In the meantime, I’m not in a position to make any other comment,” said Ian. It was learnt from a local newspaper that the ACSU visited Ian in England before coming to Dhaka. The investigation brought out a series of names which also includes another former national skipper Khaled Mahmud. It was said that Mahmud, who is also Chittagong King’s coach, was well aware of the situation and he knew about the settlement with Gladiators. However, Mahmud denied all the allegations. Mahmud was also questioned by ACSU during their visit to Dhaka last week. ACSU has already prepared their report and will soon submit it to the ICC and the Bangladesh Cricket Board along with the guideline.
