South African fast bowling legend Allan Donald will be the next bowling coach of Bangladesh cricket team, informed BCB cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Younus to the media Friday.
BCB have contracted with Donald until the next T20 World Cup in Australia which will be held in October-November this year.
“We have appointed Donald as the bowling coach of the Bangladesh national team until next T20 World Cup. Donald will work with the team from the upcoming away series in South Africa,” said Jalal.
Donald will replace Ottis Gibson as the bowling coach.
"Good day everyone, a very special day for me, just to announce that I will be joining the Bangladesh cricket team right from the start of the South African series and leading of course to the T20 World Cup that will take place in Australia," said Donald in a video message.
"I'm very close to Russell Domingo (Bangladesh head coach), I know him really, really well from my days with the Proteas. He's been working hard with the Bangladesh team.
"I'm looking forward to working with Bangladesh fast bowlers, young talented bunch, I know that they're doing quite well over there in Bangladesh against Afghanistan. I'm really looking forward to joining up with them in the coming days, in Pretoria, for the first one-day international against the Proteas."
The 53-year old Donald has accumulated plenty of coaching experience since retiring from the game in 2004.
He has worked with Sri Lanka and New Zealand, apart from South Africa, in the international level as well as Warwickshire, Kent, the Mountaineers, Pune Warriors India and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
He was also the bowling coach of South Africa during Russell Domingo’s era between 2013 and 2015.
Donald has played 72 Tests and 164 ODIs for South Africa and took 330 and 272 wickets respectively.
Bangladesh team will travel to South Africa on March 12 and players can start practice from March 14 upon testing Covid-19 negative.
Bangladesh will play three ODIs and two Tests in the South Africa tour.
The ODIs will be played on March 18, 23 and 25.
The first Test will start from March 31 while the second will commence from April 8.
