Bangladesh T20I captain Mahmudullah has informed that the decision to split wicket-keeping task between veteran Mushfiqur Rahim and Nurul Hasan is being taken sportingly in the team.
Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo during a media interaction Monday had said Nurul will get to do the job in the first two matches, while Mushfiq will perform the duty in the third and fourth games.
For the fifth match, Domingo had a smile saying "the best of the two will get to do the job".
The revelation from the Bangladesh coach had come in as a surprise to a majority in the fraternity, given that Bangladesh team management has backed Mushfiq as their No 1 wicket-keeper in ODIs and T20Is, despite questions raised around his keeping skills in the last few years.
Bangladesh are set to take on visitors New Zealand in a five-match T20I series starting Wednesday at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Mahmudullah speaking on the matter during the media conference Tuesday said the decision has not affected the team, and that Mushfiq has agreed to the decision sportingly.
“The team are not at all affected due to the decision. Mushfiq is a team man and he is happy. Sohan (Nurul) is happy too,” said Mahmudullah to the media.
Mushfiq has been behind the stumps for Bangladesh for around 16 years now.
In 86 T20Is, the right-handed middle-order batsman could not play as wicket-keeper in just four games.
Bangladesh had then found Liton Das for the job but with Nurul coming into the fold and performing both as a batsman and a keeper, there has been a change in the mindset of the coaching panel.
“Everything is fine in the dressing room. The players are happy and so is the team management. It's absolutely fine and everyone is positive,” said all-rounder Mahmudullah.
The first game of the series is scheduled to begin at 4pm Bangladesh time.
The remaining matches will be played at the same venue on September 3, 5, 8 and 10.
