Tamim has been dealing with pain in his right meniscus for the past few days

Update : 17 Jun 2021, 08:48 PM

Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal will not be available for Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Super League stage of the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20.

Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim has been advised to take two-week rest to recover from a knee injury before leaving for the tour of Zimbabwe with the national team at the end of this month.

Both Prime Bank team officials and Tamim confirmed to the media Thursday his unavailability in the Super League.

Tamim has been dealing with pain in his right meniscus for the past few days.

He played his last game for Prime Bank Thursday against Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, and exited the bio-secured bubble that is in place for the tournament.

“I played the last few matches with pain in right meniscus, but it is becoming tough for me now,” said Tamim through a voice message.

“I have spent a good time with Prime Bank. Have played for many clubs over the years but Prime Bank will remain as one of the top. They are highly professional. I spoke to the team chairman Tanjil Chowdhury bhai regarding my injury and he straight away said to do as per the medical team advice,” added Tamim.

Tamim had picked up the injury Sunday during their game against Abahani Limited.

Bangladesh Cricket Board had advised the team management to put Tamim in immediate rest, but the club persisted as Tamim played on, and ensure the team's qualification in the Super League stage.

Prime Bank finished top in the league stage to move to the Super League round with nine wins and 18 points from 11 matches, while Tamim finished in fourth spot in terms of scoring the most runs in the tournament.

The left-hander played all 11 matches, and scored 306 runs at an average of 27.81.

Bangladesh national team are scheduled to leave for Zimbabwe on June 29.

The tourists following Covid-19 quarantine formalities in Zimbabwe will get down to business from July 7 with the lone Test against the hosts at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

The teams will then move to Harare for the three ODIs to be played on July 16, 18 and 20 respectively.

The three T20s will be played at the same venue on July 23, 25 and 27 respectively.
