Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said none of the participating teams in the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20 have lodged official complaint against the umpires or the competition.
Nazmul rather emphasized that the captains and managers of the team have praised the quality and the standard of the tournament when called for discussion following the recent controversies involving ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan.
Bangladesh star Shakib made an outburst on the on-field umpires after a leg-before appeal was turned down.
Shakib first kicked the stumps and then showed aggressive behavior towards the umpire during his team Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited’s game against Abahani Limited Friday.
In the same game at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Shakib later pulled out all three stumps and flung them aside after the umpire halted the game because of rain.
A disciplinary action against Shakib saw BCB and Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis impose a three-match suspension on the cricketer, and also fine Tk5 lakhs.
A part of the cricket community related the incident to Shakib raising voice against years of irregularities and biased decisions by the match officials to favor a few teams in the competition.
“We had lots of complaints in the 2017 season following which we introduced cameras [pitch vision] in all matches of Dhaka League. I had thought of suspending the tournament [following Shakib’s incident] but then later thought it will not be wise as the tournament is named after Bangabandhu,” Nazmul informed the media following the 10th BCB meeting in Mirpur Tuesday.
The BCB chief following Shakib’s outburst on the field formed a five-member committee to find out the issues in the tournament.
The committee so far has found zero complaints from the team captains and managers, said Nazmul.
“I formed a committee to find out the complaints. There has been no mention of irregularity or complaints against the umpires in any of the captain’s report following the matches,” said the BCB boss.
“The committee later met the captains and managers to discuss on the matches which have taken place so far this season. They first spoke to eight teams and then four teams – in total 12 teams. So far none of the captains or managers have complained against the umpires.
"The captains rather said this is one of the best tournaments they have played in. But it is not easy to simply conclude an issue so we have given some extra responsibilities to the committee. The committee will work on those responsibilities in the coming days."
