Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud has tested positive for Covid-19.
Mahmud, also a current Bangladesh Cricket Board director, is in isolation at home and under treatment.
Mahmud thus will miss out being the team director for the Bangladesh national team in the home ODI series against Sri Lanka, set to begin Sunday.
The former Bangladesh all-rounder was set to join the national team in the bio-secured bubble Saturday.
Mandatory Covid-19 tests before entering the team bubble however, revealed that Mahmud has been infected with the virus.
"He [Mahmud] tested positive and is in isolation at his home. We don't need to appoint another team leader [director] as we are playing Sri Lanka at home. It is easy for the board to monitor the team. So there should not be any problem regarding the role of the team leader," said BCB cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan to the media Saturday.
Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka team underwent their third Covid-19 tests and all had returned negative in results Saturday.
A total of 1,504 new Covid-19 cases and 26 deaths were recorded in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours.
The country till date has recorded 786,698 Covid-19 cases and 12,310 deaths.
Hosts Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the first match of the three-ODI series Sunday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
The second and third matches will be played Tuesday and Friday respectively at the same venue.
