Rain mars training as Shakib, Mustafizur join team

Shakib and Mustafizur reported to the team having completed two-week hotel quarantine following their return from the suspended IPL

Update : 18 May 2021, 09:02 PM

The first day of training of Bangladesh national cricket team for the upcoming ODI home series against Sri Lanka was marred by rain at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday.

The cricketers returned to the field following the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays and having tested negative in two rounds of Covid-19 tests.

All-rounder Shakib al Hasan and left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman also reported to the team having completed two-week long hotel quarantine following their return from the suspended Indian Premier League Twenty20.

However, heavy rain denied the cricketers from a proper training session scheduled to start at 4:30pm.

The cricketers' warm-up was restricted to a bit of playing football as the wickets remained covered due to rain.

Meanwhile, visitors Sri Lanka completed their three-day room quarantine Tuesday.

The tourists will be allowed to train in the facilities in Mirpur from Wednesday with the condition that they test negative in the second Covid-19 test.

The three-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh is scheduled to begin Sunday.

The second and third game of the series will be played on May 25 and 28 respectively.

All the matches will be played at the home of cricket in Mirpur.

Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka team will play intra-squad 50-over practice matches ahead of the series.

Bangladesh cricketers will play the practice game Thursday at BKSP Ground 4, while Sri Lanka will play their game Friday at BKSP Ground 3.
