According to reports, Tamim’s gesture was made due to putting the team in a dilemma. His exit forced the Essex team management to find a replacement on urgent basis. It was learned that Essex management were humbled by Tamim’s decision. Tamim earned a call-up to Essex as the second foreign signing of the season, following his brilliant performance in the 2017 Champions Trophy in England last month. The southpaw departed Dhaka to join the side on July 6 and made his debut for the club against Kent Spitfires in Kent, scoring seven runs.
However on Tuesday, Essex announced Tamim’s end to his stay, citing “personal reasons” and that the cricketer had to leave for home immediately. This paved the way for the cricket world to guess as to why he left so abruptly. Tamim, who returned to Dhaka on Wednesday evening, however, rejected the claims and termed them all as “rumours”. He stated that he never quit Essex because of a “hate crime” and emphasised that the reason was only personal.
