Resuming the suspended Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League season 2020-21 will be tough due to the recent upsurge of Covid-19 cases in the country, said Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan.
Rise in Covid-19 cases in March last year saw the premier 50-over tournament of the country get suspended.
In place of a 50-over tournament, BCB and Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis had planned a 20-over format competition in May this year for the clubs to complete the unwished season.
The league was planned to finish in three parts to be played before and after the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
The clubs were set to play six games each in the shortened tournament.
The unfinished season of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League from last year is set to resume in May and will be held in two windows.

But the current Covid-19 situation is forcing to put a hold on the plan.
“It is tough to hold Dhaka Premier League in this situation. I personally feel it will not be wise to have the tournament is such situation. Until we are able to have a foolproof bio-bubble, there is no question of starting the tournament,” said Nazmul to the media Saturday after taking the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine at a Dhaka hospital.
“The board is trying. If they can guarantee me that the tournament (Dhaka League) is possible under a strict bio-bubble, then we can start the tournament. But I feel the chances are slim,” the BCB chief added.
The Dhaka Premier League is a chief source of income for majority of the mainstream cricketers in the country.
The cricketers have been hit hard financially given the league has remained suspended for more than a year now.
