Bangladesh Blue emerge as unbeaten champions

Salma Khatun's Bangladesh Blue team emerged as the unbeaten champions in the women's cricket event of the 9th Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games after beating Bangladesh Green side by eight wickets in the final at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Friday.

Bangladesh Blue advanced to the grand finale after winning their first two matches, while Bangladesh Green ensured their final berth following their victory in the virtual semi-final against Bangladesh Red team.

Bangladesh Blue continued their dominance in the final as well, as they won the toss, asked Bangladesh Green to bat first and restricted the opposition to just 72 in 36 overs.

Jahanara Alam and Mumtahena were the destroyers in chief, taking three wickets apiece, while Salma bagged two with her off-spin.

Bangladesh Blue team have confirmed a berth in the final of the ongoing 9th Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games women’s cricket event.

Only three Bangladesh Green batters - Ritu Moni (18), Rumana Ahmed (14) and Sanjida Islam (12) - reached double digit in the face of some disciplined bowling by Bangladesh Blue.

In reply, Bangladesh Blue reached their destination in just 18.2 overs; Shamima Sultana and Fargana Hoque scoring 31 and 28 not out respectively.

Bangladesh women returned to competitive cricket through this tournament after a gap of one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
