Bangladesh decided to pick only one pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, in the ongoing Test and although he looked menacing in the first innings, the left-arm paceman found problems with his follow through that reduced his effectiveness.
Mustafizur, who last played a Test match back in March 2019, looked extremely lively and dangerous when he took the new ball during the West Indies’ first innings and picked up two wickets on the second evening by creating frequent troubles for the visiting top-order batsmen.
One of the reasons behind him becoming sharper was bowling from very close to the stumps while delivering from over the wicket.
That gave the southpaw better chance to swing the ball in against right-handed batsmen, thus increasing the chances of getting wickets through bowled and leg before, while at the same time gave little room for the batsmen to free their arms and score runs.
However, the lanky pacer failed to maintain his follow through avoiding the danger zone on occasions, and got two warnings from the umpire.
As a result, he started to bowl from wider area and lost his effectiveness a little bit.
On the fourth evening, with the new ball in the second innings, he got another warning, and did not bowl after four overs.
Bangladesh think–tank would love to see the seamer bowling from the close of the stumps and at the same time improve his follow through.
