Right-arm paceman Hasan Mahmud staked his claim for a place in the final Bangladesh squad for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies by bagging a four-for as Mahmudullah XI beat Tamim XI by five wickets in the first of two practice games.

The 21-year old Hasan featured for champions Gemcon Khulna in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup with 11 wickets from nine games and was in his elements again after his skipper Mahmudullah elected to bowl first Thursday in the 40-over warm-up match at BKSP 3.

Tamim XI were bundled out for 161 in 37.2 overs, with youngster Afif Hossain top-scoring with 35, while ODI captain Tamim and No 3 batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto chipped in with 28 and 27 respectively.

Hasan finished with 4/21 in his six overs, including one maiden, and received valuable support from left-arm pacer Shariful Islam and right-arm pace bowler Al Amin Hossain, who each grabbed two wickets.

In reply, Mahmudullah XI reached their destination with only half their side gone in 36.5 overs, the skipper himself leading the way with an unbeaten 51, with 43 coming from the bat of opener Mohammad Naim.

The series comprising three ODIs and two Tests is Bangladesh’s first international engagement in 10 months having hosted Zimbabwe in March last year and then go to a break due to the COvid-19 pandemic

Tamim XI’s Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehedi Hasan and Nasum Ahmed bagged one wicket apiece.

National selectors Minhajul Abedin and Habibul Bashar will also observe the second and final practice match Saturday at the same venue, before announcing the final ODI squad.
