Beximco Dhaka held their nerve to defeat Fortune Barishal by nine runs in their Bangabandhu T20 Cup Eliminator in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Monday.
After winning the toss, Dhaka skipper Mushfiqur Rahim chose to bat first but Barishal started well instead by restricting the capital city outfit in the powerplay overs.
Dhaka were struggling in the first half an hour as opener Mohammad Naim (five), No 3 batsman Al Amin (nought) and middle-order batter Sabbir Rahman (eight) went back to the pavilion in six overs with just 22 runs on the board.
Mushfiq and the in-form Yasir Ali formed an important 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket and halted the slide for Dhaka.
Mushfiq got out scoring 43 against right-arm pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi while trying to play a sweep shot.
Right-hander Akbar Ali played a little cameo of 21 from just nine deliveries before getting caught at deep mid wicket.
Player of the match Yasir stood firm at the other end and scored a vital half century as the right-hander scored 54 off 43 deliveries with four fours and a couple of sixes.
Eventually, Dhaka posted a competitive total of 150 losing eight wickets despite early hiccups.

In reply, Barishal top-order failed to click and Dhaka bowlers bowled well in the powerplay overs.
Barishal lost in-form duo Saif Hasan (12) and Parvez Hossain Emon (two) in the powerplay overs which yielded 33 runs.
Captain Tamim Iqbal scored 22 before getting out and his poor strike rate of 78.57 mounted more pressure for the batsmen to follow.
Tamim started his innings impressively hitting two boundaries in the first over but was dismissed at a crucial moment for just 22 off 28 deliveries, leaving the side in trouble.
Left-hander Afif Hossain played a superb innings in the middle part of the innings with three fours and four sixes.
But his 55-run innings was not enough for Barishal as other batsmen failed to give him enough support.
Eventually Barishal managed to score 141, losing nine wickets in their pursuit of Dhaka’s total.
Seamers Muktar Ali and Shafiqul Islam took three wickets each for Dhaka.
