Three wins in three as Chattogram go top

A few of the Barishal batsmen got starts but were unable to convert them into 30s as they fell short against Mustafizur’s miserly bowling at the end

High flying Gazi Group Chattogram find themselves at the summit of the points table of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup after securing their third win in a row, a 10-run victory against Fortune Barishal, in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Monday.

In pursuit of 152, Barishal managed 141 losing eight wickets in the face of some controlled bowling by the port city outfit.

Chattogram’s left-arm pace bowling duo Shariful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman were key behind their triumph as they picked up three wickets each, the latter taking his tournament tally to highest nine.

Shariful was adjudged player of the match for his three-for which came at the cost of 27 runs in four overs.

The Fizz meanwhile continued his stellar form in the competition, bowling well throughout his quota of four overs, especially in the death, to finish with 3/23.

Skipper Tamim Iqbal was the top-scorer for Barishal with a run-a-ball 32 as they tasted their second defeat in three games.

A few of the Barishal batsmen got starts but were unable to convert them into 30s as they fell short against Mustafizur’s miserly bowling at the end.

The table-topper earlier posted a decent 151 on the board for seven wickets.

In-form opener Liton Das played well at the top, scoring highest 35 off 25 balls with four sweetly-timed fours.

Middle-order batsmen Shamsur Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain added 26 and 28 respectively to help Chattogram on their way to a good total.

Lower order batsman Saykat Ali, replacement of Bangladesh Test captain and the injured Mominul Haque, struck a late cameo to take his side past the 150-mark.

Saykat struck three crucial sixes in the 19th over that eventually went for 21, bowled by right-arm paceman Abu Jayed, and that swung the momentum in Chattogram’s favor.
