Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza, wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and all-rounder Mahmudullah have raised their voice seeking an end to the recent incidents of violence against women in the country.
The trio were among the Bangladesh national team cricketers who manifested their stance against women repression on social media.
Some recent incidents of rape and violence against women, including the one in Sylhet’s Murari Chand College campus and Nokhali’s Begumganj sparked outrage, and the Tigers joined the chorus of protests across the country.
Mashrafe wrote on his facebook page: “When your daughter sits on your lap, you do not have ‘that feeling’. When your sister is in your next room, you also do not have ‘that feeling’. When you go out with your wife, you feel bad when anyone looks at her in a bad way. But when it comes to looking at others, do you and I have the same feeling?
“If not, then you have to understand that the problem is in the minds of many.
“Maybe not everything is revealed due to the environmental conditions. Let’s change the mindset. Let the women live with their heads high.
“And rapists do not have an identity. He is ugly, maybe not in appearance, but mentality.”
Mushfiq said on social media: “We cannot stay silent anymore. Rape or any kind of sexual harassment can never be tolerated, it has no space in the society.
Wake up Bangladesh. Say no to rape. No means NO.”
Mahmudullah changed his facebook profile picture to black with the message “Raise Your Voice” and hashtag “SayNoToRape”.
Opening batsman Soumya Sarkar wrote on social media: “No woman has to be a victim of physical abuse. Women have to feel like they are not alone. There is no mercy for the abusers.”
Paceman Rubel Hossain said on facebook: “The human-shaped animals are so unfortunate that despite being born in women’s womb, they didn’t learn how to respect women. Mothers, sisters, stay safe. There are some animals posing as humans living in this city. I have lost words to write. We want Rape-Free Bangladesh.”
Earlier, all-rounder Shakib al Hasan also voiced his outrage on social media against the recent spate of rape and violence incidents against women.
