Former New Zealand all-rounder Craig McMillan has been appointed batting consultant of the Bangladesh team in their tour of Sri Lanka this year.

Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the appointment Tuesday.

McMillan replaced South African Neil McKenzie, who resigned from the post recently.

Former Proteas batsman McKenzie ended his two-year long association with BCB last week, citing family reasons for his decision which he conveyed to the board through a letter.

McMillan has been handed the role on temporary basis, and it is understood that his performance will be evaluated during the almost two-month long tour of Sri Lanka.

BCB in the meantime will also explore other options.

In a decade-long international career for the Black Caps, McMillan scored over 8,000 international runs across the three formats.

Following his retirement, McMillan performed the role of New Zealand’s batting/fielding coach from 2014-2019.

He also has coaching experience with Canterbury, Middlesex and Indian Premier League Twenty20 team Kings XI Punjab.

Bangladesh team are set to return to the field with the tour of Sri Lanka that comprises a three-match Test series in October-November.

The team are likely to travel by the end of September, and McMillan will join them during their pre-tour camp in the island.
