"We will continue to work with authorities over the coming hours and days and review our security in line with the threat levels."It was a normal Saturday night in London where the people were in party mood when suddenly uncertainty and fear shrouded the capital city of England. According to witnesses, assailants drove a van into pedestrians at high speed before stabbing revellers at London Bridge, killing seven people and injuring several others.
Subsequently, the London Bridge was cordoned off amid heavy presence of police while the adjacent London Underground, better known as the Tube, was turned off limits for the public.
Traffic was heavy around midnight as the Tube was closed down. To add to that, many people were stuck at nearby bars and pubs.
However, normal service resumed the following morning and the ongoing 2017 Champions Trophy, being held in England and Wales, will go ahead as planned as there are no immediate threats to the competition.
This correspondent found out that the hotel where the participating teams are staying had no police presence prior to and after the attack.Meanwhile, Cricket Australia said it was comfortable with the level of security provided to their Champions Trophy team. Australia face Bangladesh in a crucial Group A match on Monday at The Oval, just a few miles south of London Bridge.
The International Cricket Council issued a statement later on Sunday, saying safety and security of the Champions Trophy and the women's World Cup, beginning on June 24 in Derby, was "the highest priority".
