Nine cricketers will start practicing individually at four different venues across the country from Sunday.

Players will train individually on a schedule basis at various facilities for a week, starting from Sunday to next Sunday, with a day’s break, scheduled for Friday.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has set the rules regarding the practice sessions, such as each player has to take part in training individually, and none of the listed players can practice together at the same time.

Initially, BCB discouraged players from taking part in training sessions outside during the coronavirus pandemic.

But a few players were eager to start training as early as possible, and some even took part in personal practice sessions at several locations.

Later, BCB informed that since a few players want to start training immediately, thus, it will allow players to practice individually at national venues if they applied to the board by Friday.

Nine cricketers have shown their interest to start individual training and applied to the BCB.

The nine players are wicketkeeper-batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun and Nurul Hasan, opening batsman Imrul Kayes, pacers Shafiul Islam and Khaled Ahmed, spinners Nayeem Hasan and Mahedi Hasan and all-rounder Nasum Ahmed.

Among these players, Mushfiq, Mithun, Imrul and Shafiul will train at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Nayeem at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Nurul and Mahedi at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna and Khaled and Nasum at Sylhet Stadium.

According to BCB, the players who will practice in Mirpur can avail the gymnasium at the academy and the batting facilities at the indoor stadium in Mirpur.

And the cricketers who will train in Chittagong, Khulna and Sylhet can only use the gymnasium and take part in running sessions.

Initially, these nine cricketers will train under the supervision of BCB medical team following health regulations amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, other players including ODI captain Tamim Iqbal, T20I skipper Mahmudullah and Test captain Mominul Haque will perform fitness workout at their homes personally.

According to source, BCB is considering this training period as a trial case as it has a plan to start training sessions with more players after the Eid-ul-Adha vacation if this seven-day practice program is completed successfully and the coronavirus pandemic gets better significantly.

However, all cricket activities in the country remain suspended since mid-March this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bangladesh has crossed the grim 200,000 mark in the confirmed cases of coronavirus yesterday with 2,709 people testing positive in the last 24 hours.

With this development, the number of total confirmed cases jumped to 202,066, according to Directorate General of Health Services.

The death toll from the coronavirus infection has reached 2,581 in the country as 34 more people died of the deadly virus in the past 24 hours.
