Bangladesh Cricket Board has planned to hold a series of online sessions with psychologists, involving the cricketers of the U-19 team and national women’s side.
The sessions are aimed to boost the mental health of the cricketers as they have been at home since March this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
BCB chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury informed the board’s intention to the media.
The cricketers, despite being at home, have been under the watch of the BCB following indoor practice guidelines.
However without any cricket for a long time, the situation is tough for the cricketers to keep motivated mentally, and thus the sessions would be beneficial for the cricketers, believes Dr Debashish.
“For now, we’re thinking of a professional psychologist to give mental support to the women and U-19 cricketers. All will be arranged when the matter is finalized in our meeting [Saturday]. I have heard that the chairman of the women's department is also positive about this,” said Dr Debashish.
BCB game development department is also positive about the sessions.
“Yes, we’re thinking positively of holding a string of virtual sessions with the psychologist for our players’ mental development. We all know it’s been four months of no action for the coronavirus pandemic. They surely have been blown apart due to this,” senior BCB game development manager Abu Emam Mohammad Kawser said.
“We want to take this initiative to support the cricketers mentally. The medical department is working on it,” the BCB official added.
BCB has already communicated with Bangladeshi-origin Canadian psychologist Ali Azhar Khan to conduct the sessions.
Ali has previously worked with the men’s national team on two occasions in the past.
As per the initial plans, there will be five virtual sessions with the U-19 team and women’s side with participation of 25 cricketers in each class.
