Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal and left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam in their latest effort to help the coronavirus affected people has come in aid of the struggling freedom fighters in Narayanganj.
Nazmul has been tirelessly working at his home town in Narayanganj, helping the needy amid the coronavirus pandemic, and had the support of Tamim financially.
Tamim and Nazmul took the initiative to stand beside 15 struggling freedom fighters in Narayanganj’s Forajikanda.
The freedom fighters have been given financial support and daily rations through the local Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
“We have been trying to help the people struggling due to the crisis. There are many who are not being able to reveal their struggle publicly. There are many freedom fighters in my area who are stressed due to the situation. That is why myself and Tamim bhai decided to do something for them. We have gifted them some cash and rations of regular use. Our UNO madam has handed those to them [freedom fighters],” Nazmul informed the media.
Narayanganj at the initial stage of Covid-19 pandemic in the country was considered as the epicenter of the spread.
Since the unofficial lockdown, people in the industrial city were struggling to meet their daily bread.
Nazmul along with his friends, and with support from Tamim, have helped around 800 families so far in the area.

And during Ramadan, Nazmul ensured that support is spread out during this time, including providing 1,800 people Iftar for a day.
“Our gift to the freedom fighters [in my area] is for what they have done for our country. A few of them are struggling now so we thought of standing beside them,” said Nazmul.
Indulged in the work, Nazmul has been living away from his home for the last 20 days and ensured that the work is being done properly – starting with collection of funds, purchase of goods, packaging and delivery.
“I thought this is the best time to help the people. These people watch us play in the field. Cricket would not have been this big without them. So I thought of coming forward for their help. There was a point when I was struggling with money in this project but Tamim bhai came to boost me strongly, a reason due to which I have been able to help so many people so far,” Nazmul informed.
Till Thursday afternoon, Bangladesh confirmed that coronavirus infection cases crossed the 12,000 mark as the country recorded 706 new cases in the last 24 hours.
With the latest figure, the number of total confirmed cases jumped to 12,425.
The total number of deaths in the country stood at 186 till Wednesday.
In the last 24 hours, 130 patients recovered from the virus and total recoveries stand at 1,910.
